World

Cortoris is the world of The Fathom. In it, you’ll explore a land of mountain strongholds, hidden cities, ancient powers, and fractured nations, where beauty is shadowed by danger.

Map view of Cortoris

Cortoris is a world where the land itself feels storied: mountain cities beneath storm-dark peaks, old roads still carrying the weight of empire, and distant southern regions where deserts give way to hidden river valleys and stone sanctuaries. Taor lives under the shadow of the Everpeaks and the Legion. Aorthis remains hidden. Spire endures in memory as much as in stone.

Its deepest divisions are not only between nations, but between different kinds of order. Some powers preserve themselves through display and obedience. Others are shaped by wisdom, restraint, and harmony. That contrast gives the setting much of its texture. It is present in its architecture, its worship, its laws, and in the quieter bonds between people.

At the heart of that mystery are the jiem, ancient stones whose light binds itself to the soul. They do not simply grant power. They disclose the shape of the person who bears them. In Cortoris, wonder and danger are rarely far apart, and even the most luminous things must be learned rightly if they are not to be twisted.
